The 15th “Fuels of the Future” conference was held in January 2018. This conference has now become established as one of the most important events in Europe addressing biofuels and alternative drive systems, covering the widest range of topics of any such event. In 2017, the conference was extended to include the topic of „renewable mobility“ for the first time.
In In incorporating this additional content, the conference organisers - the German Bioenergy A ssociation (BBE), the Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants (UFOP), the German Bioethanol Industry Association (BDBe), the German Biofuels Industry Association (VDB) and the German Biogas Association (FvB) - underline the fundamental importance of all renewable options for decarbonisation of transport. Referring to the ambitious objective of the Paris Climate Agreement, the conference organisers emphasise that decarbonisation of transport cannot be achieved by 2050 unless all these options are deployed. The transport sector especially poses a particular global challenge for signatories of the Paris Agreement, due to constant increases in traffic and the particular challenges that changing models or drives, along with the need for additional nationwide infrastructure, poses for national economies. These challenges also encompass consumer acceptance, as consumers’willingness to change models or drives also determines the pace of this transformation process.
