Shaping the Transformation – Paving the Way for Renewables 24th International Conference “Fuels of the Future” focuses on security of supply and resilience

21 October 2026

How can the climate-friendly transformation of the transport sector succeed while at the same time making energy supply more secure and resilient? This question will be at the heart of the 24th International Conference on Renewable Mobility “Fuels of the Future 2027”, taking place on 18 and 19 January 2027 at the CityCube Berlin. Under the motto “Shaping the Transformation – Full Steam Ahead for Renewables”, Europe’s leading event for the renewable fuels industry will bring together more than 600 international participants from over 30 countries and more than 90 speakers from politics, business and academia.

“Renewable fuels are far more than just an instrument for climate action. They are a strategic component in ensuring the security of supply and resilience of our transport system. The past few years have demonstrated just how vulnerable fossil energy imports and global supply chains can be. A greater diversity of energy sources and supply channels reduces dependencies, strengthens energy sovereignty and provides additional stability. Sustainably produced renewable fuels can also strengthen regional and European value creation,” emphasizes Marlene Mortler, Chairwoman of the Board of the German Bioenergy Association (BBE).

For the energy transition in transport to gain broad public acceptance, it must combine climate action, security of supply and affordability. Sustainable biofuels, electricity-based fuels, renewable hydrogen and electromobility complement each other as key elements of technology-neutral transformation. The crucial task is to make consistent use of solutions already available while simultaneously paving the way for innovations to enter the market.

The relevance and urgency of this debate are reflected in the high-level political contributions at the opening of the Conference. During the opening session, “National Perspectives on the Energy Transition in Transport”, on the first day of the Conference, the future role of renewable fuels will be focused. Federal Minister of Transport Steffen Bilger will present the prospects and policy measures for renewable fuels under the German Federal Government’s revised Climate Action Programme. Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport (Germany), will join industry representatives in the panel discussion “Politics Meets Practice” to discuss the political framework required to expand the market for renewable fuels.

However, the focus is not only on solutions for the future. Higher shares of renewable fuels can already achieve additional greenhouse gas emission reductions in the existing vehicle fleet today. The Conference programme will address topics including E20, higher biodiesel blends, B100 and the potential use of biomethane in the form of LNG and CNG, thereby linking climate action, security of supply and practical implementation.

Over the course of two days, the Conference will provide an opportunity to assess current policy developments, discover innovative technologies and projects, and network with renewable mobility experts from around the world. After all, “Paving the Way for Renewables” also means paving the way for solutions, innovations and investments that advance climate action and security of supply together.
